929 CDX, Friday, 28 December 2007 Written by Ronald S. Fogelson
Nitro's have never been known as the fastest thing on the water however mine runs 68.5 to 69.4 GPS consistently with a 25 pitch Tempest and have hit 70.4 with a 27. The room on this is out of this world as I am just over 6'3 @ 250lbs I don't like little boats and while on the front deck of my 929 I have room for another angler to fish with me with ease. This is possible because the 96 inch beam is tapered to the front rather then moving from the seat to the front of the boat to form a point, Nitro's hold that beam farther up the deck then any other traditional bass boat. There is more storage then you should ever need; two full size rod lockers and with the built in organizer you can store 12 rods over 7 foot per side. Then you have the 3 storage sections on the front deck. One is large enough I could crawl in if I wanted the other two are side by side and made to fit 10 Plano tackle boxes with the organizer or life jackets, cold weather gear or what ever you might want quick access to. In the rear the 2 septate 33 gal Guardian livewells are a dream. Shaped in the form of a boot the bass have a darker area to nose into. Each has it's own pump out and fill pumps with an aerator. The down side of them is the location of the drain. It is on the side so no matter what you can't get all the water out. Behind and under the drivers and the outside passengers seat is additional storage. The two behind the seats are large enough to drop in one of those large red & white flip top coolers. The ones under the seats is a great place for your rain gear, tools and with a drain can be used as an additional cooler. The floor cooler is large enough for a case of soda and 1.5 bags of ice and has two drains; a large one to get the water out quick and a smaller one in the floor to insure it drys out. This boat has little to know chine walk, is easy to drive and best of all is dry. Taking 2 to 3 foot swells is not an issue; the 225 Optimax has enough power to get up on top and just skip over them. I would recommend this boat to others but over the years the $$$$$$$ has gone up and is no longer the deal it used to be. The Z9 is on the market now and pushing $50,000.00 the currant 929 CDX for 2008 is over 37,000.00 with the 225 but now comes standard with a 200 Optimax. However if you are looking for a dry smooth ride with room to do a little dance in the front deck after putting another hog in the boat without taking a 3rd job to pay for it; take a look at the Nitro line.
